INSTALLATION OF GEAR DRIVE TIMING SET |

FOR FORD ENGINES GD-302/302N/351C/351CN/460/460N: * Clean and remove all preserve. Apply grease on bronze ring and place it on the back of cam gear. . * Turn NO.1 piston to TDC posisiton and install crank and cam gears. Line up timing marks and face each other. * FORD302/351C are available to advance or retard cam timing 4.5 degree each way. Line "A" mark on cam gear to crank gear timing mark is for advance. Line "R" mark to crank gear is for retard. * FORD460 is available for advance +4 and +8 degrees. Select desired degree to follow same procedure as above. * Slide idle gear half way in between both gears with the larger gear on the passenger side and the longer axle toward to engine block. * Put timing cover & gasket in place. Make sure the idle gear is all the way in. Remove cover and make sure to have a 0.015- 0.060" clearance betwen axle and block. The idle gear is riding on the timing cover in normal operation. Grind off end of axle for increasing clearance or install a bolt on cover for reducing clearance. * Install cam gear bolts with proper torque. Make sure locking plate is installed. * Hand crank the engine to ensure the gear set is running smoothly. When the larger idle gear is in hard mesh, the small idle gear must has 0.005-0.070" clearance for freely up down movement. * Place timing cover with seal compound on both side of gasket. *Run engine at slow speed to ensure no abnormal sound from timing set.
