![]() |
* Clean and remove all preserve and immerse lifters in WD-40 or other cleanser. Then soak lifters in engine oil for 30 minutes. . * Remove all burrs on engine block bore ensure the lifters are freely totated in bore by hand. Excessive clearance or over tight can cause damage to cam. * Apply engine oil on roller tips and push rod seats before installation. * Always use new push rods and ensure the end ball diameter is 5/16" or less. Over sized end ball will damage to the lifters. New push rod should be 0.030" longer for pre-load purpose. * Make sure to pre-load lifter from 0.02-0.04" range. Excessive pre-load will cause rough idle and low vacuum. Insufficient pre-load will generate valve train noise. * Make sure the push rod is properly seated on lifter during installation process. Take one by one steps. * If a wider lobe cam is installed, make sure to have a sufficient side clearance between lifter roller tip and cam lobe. * Install one push rod at a time and make sure push rod has no obstruction from guide plate and cylinder head. * Make sure a proper valve lash has been adjusted according to cam specification. * Hand crank engine to ensure lifters are properly operating and contacting in the center of crown with cam lobe. * Apply plenty of cam lube on lobes, distributor gear, and fuel pump
for engine break-in.
